The result of a lean Construction methodology is what BCES/PP strives for on every project. However, it is only partly achieved when it is not embraced by our clients.
To achieve total Lean Construction, it is necessary to have a collaborative approach at the planning stages of construction by all parties involved.
Our experience has been; we only become involved with the project once it is designed, engineered, routed, and ready for construction, with minimal or no input to the project. We bid on the project, and if awarded, we have had approximately 2 weeks or less from laying first eyes on the project to mobilizing equipment and begin construction.
Only recently some of our clients have been speaking about Lean Construction and are migrating to a collaborative approach. Others are price takers and are continuing to run their business in the same old inefficient way and are driving up unnecessary construction costs, and either costing themselves excessive construction dollars or the contractors.
We have had opportunities in the past to be involved in the planning stages of construction and feel as though we contributed immensely. BCES/PP assisted in ensuring the project was planned in a systematic, chronological order that created maximum efficiency and minimal waste.

Some of the areas where major improvements were made are:
Proper Right of Way routing and adequate workspace on crossings, tie-ins, and deflections
Proper crossing selections on major crossings.
Creating a systematic flow of work by having the Drilling Department communicate with the Facility/Construction Department and organize a drilling program which flows with the order in which wells are to be tied-in. This reduces trucking and mobilization costs and shortens the waiting time for production to come on stream.
Landowner issues were resolved prior to project commencement.
Drag sections for major crossings had adequate coating installed
All material was procured and ready for construction prior to kick off
Accurate AFE pricing Minimized crew standby waiting on inspection.
Proper Safety requirements were ready and in place (e.g. H2S Projects). Top tier crews could be for specific projects with larger scopes or more technical requirements
